Here is another way to illustrate the difference. Here we have flex, and I can show the flow of items going down predictably one column after the other. Next, multicolumn, which is almost the same shape the only difference here is that multico supports fragmentation. So certain items start in one column and end in the next. But the flow of items is the same. But now, switching to grid-lanes, you can see the difference. Items get re-order quite drastically. And the flow is this criss-cross pattern. Very different from the previous two.
